Alexia: "I feel good, I have complete confidence in what we're creating."
Alexia Putellas , winner of two MVP awards and scorer of three goals at this European Championship, was in charge of appearing before the press ahead of the semi-final against Germany . "I feel good. I have full confidence in what we're creating, in our mentality, in the way we've played throughout the European Championship. It will be a very tough match , but I'm extremely excited and motivated to keep moving forward," said the Catalan, who added: "It means the same to my teammates as well. We're going in with a lot of enthusiasm and confidence in ourselves. We know this is one of the best teams in the world and that it will be very difficult."
Alexia is aware of the potential of Germany, which has won this tournament eight times : "I don't know if it belongs to another era, but it's certainly difficult to do it. And let's imagine if Spain can do it... We're going to reach our first final first, which would be a huge success ," she noted before denying that, unlike Vicky López, this tie is like getting a thorn out of her side after the defeat at the Paris Olympics last summer: "Each one tries to find a way to write history. Personally, I see it as an opportunity, not revenge. The Olympics are a different competition. We all agree that it's a completely different context. Other stadiums and another way of competing. It won't have anything to do with it. But it was an opponent we lost to, and tomorrow we have the opportunity to win it for the first time."
The Queen insisted: "We have to do what we've been doing and perfect it. We have four teams left, and we have to get closer to excellence . We fully believe that if we get closer to our best and minimize errors, we can advance to the final."
Alexia declined to give any clues as to whether she would take a penalty if it went to a shootout: "The coaching staff decides. My body wants to win . Penalties are the theme of the Euros because of what's happening. These are things we're training for before the game against Switzerland. In the end, the coaching staff decides." And she welcomed the strong following this tournament is receiving: "In the end, it was just a matter of following its course. It was what we always looked for. It's the work of a lot of people . You only have to watch one game from the previous Euros and the level is rising. It was just a matter of it happening, and I'm very happy that it's happening that way."
The midfielder praised Patri: " It's a luxury to play with Patri , the best pivot in the world in my opinion. She's a facilitator, in pressing, in releasing the ball, an all-rounder, and we can't forget the quality she has. It's very easy to play with Patri." Asked about Germany's intention to have more control of the ball, she said, "We'll see what kind of game they play. We want to have control, and that means having the ball . It will be a nice contest. They transition very well and very quickly." She concluded: "I don't know who will have more pressure. When the game starts, you don't feel it. Historically, the context of the two teams is completely different, but when the referee blows the whistle, we will try to win."
